Amazon cloud crash takes down DoE website (The Hill)
The Amazon’s cloud infrastructure crashed yesterday, for unknown or known reasons. A lot of cloud based systems were down. One of the sites down was the DoE website.
My Two Cents: Do not place your mission critical systems in the public cloud please! You can leverage the cloud, and/or create your own private cloud infrastructure that you have control over. It is fun to go to your server farms, I get excited seeing a few thousand servers running on one floor, but the fact is I know what servers are mine, or my partners and/or clients. In the Public cloud you don’t know. So it amazes me to see people complain or get any press when a public cloud provider goes down and it is some disaster. If your that stupid to place your mission critical systems in the public cloud, and then you get pissed when it goes down, maybe computer technology is not what you need to be involved in, we wouldn’t hire you.
